How do I identify my Subaru Outback year and series?

On the Outback, the certification label is visible through a door opening. Pair its manufacture date with the VIN.

The Outback range covers 7GEN / BU, 6GEN / BT, 5GEN / BS and earlier generations. At the 2025 crossover, 7GEN / BU has the revised, more upright front and a wider grille treatment; 6GEN / BT retains the previous nose. A 2020 car can be 6GEN / BT or 5GEN / BS: BT has heavier black wheel-arch cladding and a taller grille, while BS has smoother guards and a narrower front.

How to install front wiper blades for the Subaru Outback?

On a BT Outback, press the small point in the forked adaptor and slide the blade upwards. A fingertip usually works; if it is stubborn, use a small flat tool without levering against the arm.

Push the replacement down the fork until its button sits in the centre opening. Remove the blade protector last, then repeat on the passenger side. Older J-hook generations follow their curved-arm fitting instead.

How do I install the rear wiper blade on a Subaru Outback?

For BT through BP Outbacks, bend the rear blade back from the window until its centre socket releases. Match the groove in the replacement to the locating line on the arm and snap it into place. BH uses a rear J-hook, so select by generation before starting.

What connector type does the Subaru Outback use?

BU and BT Outbacks use forked push-button front arms. BS, BR, BP, BH and BG use J-hooks. Rear connector design changes on the earlier generations.

Did Subaru Outback wiper blade sizes change between generations?

Yes. BU has 16-inch (400mm) and 17-inch (425mm) fronts with a 16-inch (400mm) rear. BT uses a much longer 26-inch (650mm) driver blade, an 18-inch (450mm) passenger blade and a 14-inch (350mm) rear.

Do all Subaru Outback generations use the same front wiper-arm connector?
